World Book Day

Next 23rd of April the World Book Day takes place, and UNESCO designed Port Harcourt (Nigeria) as the World Book Capital for this year 2014.

In 1995 UNESCO decided the World Book and Copyright Day, which is celebrated every 23rd of April. UNESCO decided that date since it is also the anniversary of the death of Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, and it is also the birth or death of Maurice Druon, Haldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo.

Although Cervantes died on 22nd of April and was buried on 23rd of April according the Gregorian calendar, whilst Shakespeare died on 23rd April by the Julian calendar in use in England at the time.

We encourage you to give a book to some friend or yourself!
