Cider route down the street "Gascona"

Asturias has excellent conditions, from a natural point of view, to have a cider apple tree plantations top notch.

Therefore, the plan for this week is a cider route down the street "Gascona" in Oviedo (in the north of Spain). In the historic center of Oviedo, is the popular pedestrian street of Gascona, called "the cider boulevard" because it is full of cider bars. it is one of the most visited sites in the city and nightlife district first time, where it will take "culines" of cider and snacks, and also provide rations and dishes from the Asturian gastronomy.

The different cider bars that are located on this street are: Tierra Astur, Mater Asturias, the Pigüeña, Rincon de Gascogne, the Cachopito, Villaviciosa the Pumarada, Asturias and the Noceda.

A partnership was created among all cider bars in order to celebrate food festivals, promotions or various competitions (such as pourers) that give greater height and number of visitors to the area.

Towns of a Christmas Tale

If you take into account our recommendation for this week about skiing and also consider that Christmas is coming, our plan is clear: visit one of the following towns that seem towns of a Christmas tale.

Everyone have ever read or heard a tale at Christmas time. For some reason, that tale often occur in areas where it is cold, where it often snows, there are forests and where people are at their home next to a fire.

Here you are our recommendations:

1.- Grindelwald (Switzerland): located in the canton of Bern, is a hill resort that in winter is covered in white, but also allows some of the best views of Switzerland between mountain peaks and forests.

2.- Rothenburg (Germany): located in Bavaria, is an ancient medieval imperial city that preservers the aspect intact of centuries and inspired the town of Pinocchio in the Disney version. Half-timbered facades, sloping ceilings accumulating snow and Christmas decoration are the perfect setting for a special Christmas.

3.- Hallstatt (Austria): located in the Salzkammergut region and is one of the most beautiful villages of Europe.

4.- Shirakawa-go (Japan): is a village in the district of Ono, a famous site for their houses Gassho-zukuri style. It is located in the center of the island of Honshu and literally looks like a fairytale site. Their houses, with very slanted roof are adapting the architecture to the amount of snow that must withstand winter, being a mountainous region.

As you can see, they are so beauty that you can visit them in winter or in any other season. Which is your choice?

Geocaching

Geocaching is a funny game which consists of hiding and finding treasures (caches) distributed worldwide, using a GPS.

The description of the place where each treasure is located and its coordinates are published on the following web: www.geocaching.com, but it is not easy to find them, since this prevents the treasures are destroyed or stolen.

Our recommendation for this week has been making a tour of castles in the world, living the history which happened in each of them, remembering the legends that surround them.
Sometimes it is difficult to collect all this information on time before the trip, so the plan that we recommend you is that if you know the story of a castle and his fables near where you live, play geocaching and leave a cache with this information. It is even better if you leave a photo or a drawing that recreates the life at that time.

This way you would promote the historical heritage of your environment, would also help other travellers and you will writer of a huge travel book which pages will be distributed throughout the world.

Do not forget to check regularly that your "treasure" continues in the same place where you left it and is in good condition.

You can see the comments of all those who have found and read your cache in the same web of geocaching.

The Pasta Party

A plan that you can´t miss is attend to the Pasta Party the night before the triathlon where you can recharge energy and prepare for the big day.

This party is arranged by the organization of the triathlon so you should be informed about the time and place in which it will be held when you do the registration. It is a perfect opportunity to enjoy a pleasant and healthy environment that you can´t miss.

Something that surprises me about the pasta is the great variety that you can find: dry, fresh, long, short, stuffed, whole wheat, green, black, etc... and how many different dishes you can cook with it. What is your favorite?

Yoga outdoors

If you are tired of practicing yoga at the gym or at home, enjoy the good weather and practice yoga in a park, on the beach, etc...

Practicing yoga outdoors brings us into contact with nature, revitalizes us and allows us to achieve unity with everything around us.

"Let your mind penetrate throughout the body towards your extremities, like the rays of the sun"

It is becoming more frequent that in big cities like Madrid, Barcelona or Milán large classes are organized to practice yoga outdoors. Here you are a link where you will find information about this type of classes for upcoming dates in Barcelona (yogafreebcn).

Cycle route in Scotland

One of the best experience, not only as a sporting but also a visual tour,  is to perform a cycle route through areas of great natural beauty, such as, for example, Scotland.

If this summer you plan travel to Scotland we recommend you to take the ferry to Isle of Skye, where you can make a small bike route on the A851 road from Armadale (which is where you will arrive after taking the ferry) to Kyle of Lochalsh, crossing the bridge of the A87 road.

It is a quiet road where you will meet nice landscapes as those of the pictures below:

Beer Tasting

The plan that we recommend you this week is to enjoy a beer tasting. Surely you know the difference between blonde or dark beers, but would you be able to tell a scout from a porter or from a brune?, and one blonde from a pilsner or from a lager?.

In a tasting the appearance of the beer is analyzed, which mainly consists of its head, body, color and temperature.

Also its aroma. We know that the main ingredients of beers are barley, water, hops and yeast, therefore the aroma depends on those ingredients and their characteristics. For example, depending on the type of malt we can recognize, among other smells, cake, chocolate, honey or even coffee. Hops brings fruit and herbaceous aromas, but it can also provide wood aromas. Sulfur or spicy smells are provided by the yeast.

The taste and mouthfeel are the next steps in a tasting. Here we can identify additional aromas and of course the sweetness and bitterness that barley and hops provide.

We encourage you to go to a beer tasting and to let yourself be surprised by the feelings that this experience will provide you!
